Kouyate
On the day of the first leg of the Betway Cup in Germany and just two weeks away from the start of the Premier League against Manchester United at Old Trafford, we look at the Hammers injury situation as it stands.

Cheikhou Kouyate picked up a freak’ knee injury in Austria, he is back in rehab and not expected to play for West Ham in August. Bilic said: “It is a big shame that Cheikhou got injured in one of our early training sessions and it was out of nothing. He did his knee and he is going to miss the first few games of the season. It was a freak injury and it is a blow for us. He doesn’t need surgery and the injury is not a bad one, but he needs rehab now.”

Michail Antonio is back at rush green working on his recovery from hamstring surgery in May. He will miss the first game or two of the season but is expected back for West Ham’s first home game. Bilic says on Antonio “He [Antonio] is ahead of the plan. The plan is for him to miss the first game of the season.”

antonio2707abcAndy Carroll is back at Rush Green working on rehab. No return date as yet is known at this point by medical staff. Bilic says: “Andy is still not able to train with the team but he is working hard at Rush Green with the physios.I am frustrated he cannot play, now he is still injured and it is a big loss for us.”

Sofiane Feghouli has allegedly picked up an injury in training in Germany and is currently not available for selection. Speculation continues on his departure and many remain wary of his convenient injury.

Winston Reid will soon return to full training. He told WHUFC.com yesterday “Hopefully in the next week or so I should be back, which we were sort of aiming for,” he revealed. “Generally, the rehab has been really good and the surgery has fixed the problem, which is the most important thing. I’ll be able to go out there and play pain-free, which is a blessing.

LanziniAngelo Ogbonna pulled up in training in Germany earlier this week and sat the rest of the day out but the knock is not thought to be serious and he should be available for selection sources close to club tell us.

Edimilson Fernandes picked up a small knock and missed the friendly against Fulham but he is said to have recovered and is now available for selection.

Manuel Lanzini picked up a knock in training in Germany and is doubtful. He is undergoing an assessment and won’t feature in the two legged Betway cup which will be a big miss.

Diafra Sakho has only just resumed training with the first team in Germany. Two days ago he said “Good news. Diafra Sakho should start training with the first team squad in the next day or so. Good luck Diafra. dg” He is unlikely to play in the Betway Cup today and tomorrow.

League goals, Joe, League goals.

You'll find a few clues in the words that I typed. I'm not really interested in his brace against the part timers in the first European game.

So, in my opinion, he is absolutely miles from being shit. But there are definitely improvements to be made and he needs to be more influential more often.

Re: I see Gary Lewin has made an instant impact..
Kouyate for me is better defensively than offensively. When an opponent is knocking the ball side to side around our box looking for an opening he is superb to have in there. He can cover a lot of ground and closes space down very quickly which limits the opponents options. If they do get into a dangerous position his speed will get him into a position to thrown himself into a block or to clear it. He's also very good in the air.

His distribution is ok. His general passing is not that bad but he needs to improve on his key passes and once he breaks play up he needs to then turn that into more positive key passes.

He's got a great engine and so can get up and down. Which is exactly what you need. And his runs out of our half with the ball can be very productive as, again, he covers a lot of ground. However he needs to do this more and needs to make this a bigger part of his game.

He also needs to improve on getting into the right positions offensively as he makes long runs but doesn't get on the end of things enough.

It's a big season for Kouyate. And I think if does have one of those seasons where he is just ok and just doing enough to warrant a game then it could see his career fizzle out a little.

He has very good attributes and some not so good but hopefully he can have a blinder this year.

Our injury list reflects the absence of real motivation in the squad. Spurs don't suffer from these "training ground injuries" or at least if they have an injured player he returns to the team after only a limited break. We have too many "last big payday" players who have no plans to find other clubs so need to impress no-one. It must be so disheartening for the likes of Antonio and yes, Dmitri Payet, to be in such a dressing room.
We need no-nonsense management to weed out the shirkers and award contracts with performance requirements written in.

ED definitely has a point about Kouyate even though he's a little to extreme about it.

He can have the odd great game and looks good, but not often enough. His passing is atrocious and play often breakdown down because of it.

He's a good centre back though.

Problem I have with Kouyate is that when he turns up, despite being hit and miss technically, he can be a beast. That doesn't happen as often as it should and when he's not bang at it, he's proper shite. He's also plainly stupid.

As much as it pains me to say it, Eerie has a point about Kouyate. Just because he's big and black, doesn't mean he's the new Viera. As far as I could remember, Viera could actually pass the ball.

Always bottom of the prem table before a ball is kicked but top of the physio room table. We've been very consistent at least.

Bilic says on Antonio “He [Antonio] is ahead of the plan. The plan is for him to miss the first game of the season.”

So he will be back for the first game. That's a relief!

Err, he scored 4 goals last season Eerie. A fair return for the position he plays in.

He's not a world beater, but he's certainly nowhere near as shit as you're making out

It's basically because he is a until who runs about a lot. West Ham fans love a headless chicken, they see it as the player caring, but we're simply not going to properly progress with players with his limited abilities in the middle of the park.

You know what you're up against with this debate when some people liken him to Vieira. He is not fit to be sent to a shop to buy Vieira's laces.

Re: I see Gary Lewin has made an instant impact..
I agree regarding Kouyate. Massively overrated. Just as Bahrain was. His passing is absolutely attrocious. He can do a job at the back but he's not even half the player most describe him as.

How have we managed to pick up so many injuries once again FFS. Season hasn't even started yet.

Re: I see Gary Lewin has made an instant impact..
I'm not the only one, as it happens.

Whats great about this debate, is that people say he's a box to box midfielder who does everything, he gets likened to Patrick Vieira, good passer who scores goals. When you point out that he scored 1 goal and no assists last season, and has a record of a goal 10 goals in nearly 100 appearances for us (as a player with licence to get forward), people answer by calling you a cunt.

You know that's when you've been proved right.

I do - home and away season ticket holder, have seen pretty much every game he's ever played for us so will trust my own judgement thanks.

Plus you're the ONLY one that has the opinion. Not even that deliberately contrarian prick Alex V shares it. Speaks volumes

Re: I see Gary Lewin has made an instant impact..
Do you go to games, Gary?

His passing is fucking atrocious, he scored ONE league goal last season, ZERO assists, his tackling is ok, nothing to go mad about.

So, with that in mind, do you think it might be your eyes that are playing tricks?

Re: I see Gary Lewin has made an instant impact..
He does all of the things you say he doesn't ED - you know, passing, tackling, scoring goals etc

As you claim you can't see that, you're either tonstupid to translate what your eyes are showing you, or mentally retarded. Possibly both.

Hope that answers your question you big spaz
